Hi Anna, congrats on your apple harvest! We just use the same cloth that we used in the first step, be sure it is tight woven enough so fruit flies or gnats can’t get through it and you should be good to go. Good luck!

A quick question: after straining the apples out, should the liquid go in a container with a lid on? Or cloths as in the first step?

Thanks!

Comment on Is My Sourdough Starter Bad? How to Revive Old Inactive Starter by Aaron (Mr. DeannaCat) https://homesteadandchill.com/revive-old-inactive-sourdough-starter/comment-page-2/#comment-2138057 Tue, 12 Sep 2023 15:05:48 +0000 https://homesteadandchill.com/?p=2043515#comment-2138057 In reply to Bella.

Hi Bella, it seems like your starter needs more time to show some signs of activity before you discard and feed it more. I would leave it in a warm location (70-75 F) for another 24-36 hours even to see if it starts to rise, I would also look at the trouble shooting tips we recommend in the article for your next feeding if you don’t see any activity by then such as, using half wheat or rye flour, using a probe thermometer to verify the temp of the starter of setting it on a small seedling heat mat or putting it in the oven with the light on but oven off, the next time you feed you could also try an make the starter more thick if it seems runny by using more flour and slightly less water. Just give it time and it should rebound, hope that helps and good luck!

Comment on How to Make a Cannabis Tincture: Easy Cold Alcohol Extraction by Aaron (Mr. DeannaCat) https://homesteadandchill.com/homemade-cannabis-tincture-recipe/comment-page-12/#comment-2138054 Tue, 12 Sep 2023 14:57:20 +0000 https://homesteadandchill.com/?p=2042489#comment-2138054 In reply to Rochelle.

Hi Rochelle, if you didn’t use food grade alcohol what did you use? If it isn’t food grade, you need to fully evaporate all of the alcohol out of the mixture which would in essence create Rick Simpson Oil which is incredibly potent, thick, and sticky. Its doses are also measured by the size of a grain of rice. You can use an electric slow cooker or electric rice cooker to heat the mixture so it will evaporate more readily, but do so in a very well ventilated area without any risk of flames nearby as it is a fire risk. Hope that helps and good luck!

In reply to Prometheus.

Thanks for your response. I wasn’t able to use the food grade alcohol, and it seems to be taking a bit longer to evaporate than I had thought. It’s been strained for a little more than 24 hours and has reduced by about 1/6. Granted I’m in Alaska and the sunlight is going away and temps aren’t really soaring – so in the house during the day it’s not overly warm. Does this seem reasonable? Is there anything wrong with it if it takes a couple days to reduce?

Comment on How to Feed Seedlings with Seaweed Extract Fertilizer by Lara https://homesteadandchill.com/feed-seedlings-seaweed-extract/comment-page-2/#comment-2138043 Tue, 12 Sep 2023 11:52:42 +0000 https://homesteadandchill.com/?p=3656#comment-2138043 Thank you for the article! Hoping to prevent mold on my next batch of seedlings. As an interesting note, seaweed and algae are not plants, nor are mushrooms. They do not belong to the plant kingdom at all. However, as they are not animals either I and most vegetarians don’t hesitate to enjoy them.
